An æternity Public address is a representation of the public bytes of a keypair. A valid public address starts with “ak_” and is followed by a base58 encoding. Your æternity public address is generated once you create your Superhero Wallet. This is the data that every other member will use to transact with you. Regarding everything in æternity surroundings, this is your shareable bank account that other members may use to send you Æ.

The æternity Naming System (ÆNS) enables users to register any blockchain entity, including account keys, wallet addresses, smart contracts, oracles, state channels and hashes, as human-readable names, creating an efficient and secure naming system for the decentralized web. Every name within ÆNS includes a “.chain” extension.

Here are the basics:
- Short names (1-12 characters) are subject to auctions.
- Names with more than 13 characters don’t get auctioned and can be registered directly.
- The shorter a name is, the longer its auction lasts.
- The auction period resets whenever there is a new bid.
- Initial bids for short names are more expensive than long names.
- Names expire after aproximately 100 days and need to be extended if you want to keep them.
- If a name registration is not extended, it will become available for an auction again.
